Volunteers at HSR Half Marathon

By Toastmaster Senthil

In February 2024, I had the honor of being part of an incredible initiative organized by Vonisha Foundation—a half-marathon at HSR, Bangalore. Spearheaded by Dr. Naga and, this event was more than just a race; it was a testament to the power of community, collaboration, and unwavering dedication. Vonisha Foundation, founded by this inspiring couple, focuses on the empowerment and enrichment of underprivileged school children, offering them opportunities to learn and grow.

Dr. Naga is a man par excellence. Alongside his role as the Facility Director at Fortis Hospital, he is an active member of the Lions Club, Toastmasters, and several other organizations. Despite his numerous commitments, he put his heart and soul into making this half-marathon a resounding success. With over one thousand participants, the event was a celebration of health, community spirit, and hope.

As the Sponsorship  Chair, I worked closely with Dr. Naga, who mentored and guided me throughout the process. Collaborating with him was an eye-opener. He led by example, showing that no matter how busy one’s schedule, true dedication can make a difference. Dr. Naga’s ability to manage his responsibilities while organizing such a large-scale event was truly inspirational. Even though I faced challenges in securing sponsorships, he ensured that the required funds were raised, largely due to his persistent efforts and strategic conversations with relevant stakeholders.

One of the most valuable lessons I learned from this experience was the importance of effective communication. Whether it was engaging with potential sponsors, coordinating with volunteers, or collaborating with other Toastmasters, clear and meaningful conversations were key. Dr. Naga’s approach to stakeholder management was a masterclass in how to build strong partnerships. Through his mentorship, I learned how to navigate discussions, understand the needs of different parties, and work as a cohesive team to achieve a common goal.

The event was a one-man show, in many ways. Dr. Naga managed to bring together a network of supporters, partners, and volunteers, all united by a common purpose. His hard work and persistence were evident in every aspect of the event, and he ensured that every detail was attended to, making the half-marathon a huge success.
